Wild Cat Fact #26: The Geoffroy's Cat is named after the 19th century French zoologist Étienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire who identified Geoffroy's Cat as a different species when he studied his work as a professor of zoology in Paris. ** if i don't hear from Bob by 7:30 or so i think i'll just put the cooking dishes i'm keeping into the right hand corner cabinet (the part that does NOT need replacing) for now. to anyone who is trying to comment anonymously...if you get some sorta error, can you screencap it for me? i have comments open to everyone and my dad made a successful anon comment early this morning. but i was told by Mike (Pam's hubby) that he tried to comment and he told him he had to login. and my monitor (hi, JudyP) says she has commented but i don't see any from her. so i'm not sure what is going on. had a snack (Red Lobster cheese biscuits), sent out some emails and now debating what to do next.... Current Mood: workingCurrent Music: Enigma, "Sadeness" | | 6:01 pm |

(i love you, Dad. THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES.) Current Mood: shockedCurrent Music: Backstreet Boys, "Incomplete" | | 5:31 pm |
Wild Cat Fact #24: The inter-digital webs on its paws help the Fishing cat gain better traction in muddy environments and water, like other mammals living in semi-aquatic environments. ** went through the gauntlet once on Zuma's Rorshach. now i have to practice on Mud Slide and i should be able to beat stage 11-4. of course i dunno what stage 11-5 is. might be Codex of Mixtec. :cringe: and here is your funny for the hour: Current Mood: busyCurrent Music: Zuma music | | 4:59 pm |
Wild Cat Fact #23: The Moche people of ancient Peru worshiped animals and often depicted the Ocelot in their art. ** Pam went home. i still need to take another laundry load out to the line but i'm starting to get worn out. bleh. in other news, i've hit $195!! THANK YOU, NORMS!!! i'm only $5 away from my goal!!! this is SO exciting. XD i've been trying to look at another blog that said they would give me a plug but for some reason her posts won't go past the first page. :pokes it: oh well. one of those "try again later" type things. Current Mood: lethargicCurrent Music: Semisonic, "Secret Smile" | | 4:29 pm |
Wild Cat Fact #22: Aside from humans, no species preys upon mature cougars in the wild. ** damnit i cannot find the kind of tiger picture that i want. i want one like my icon. more later. Current Mood: busy | | 3:57 pm |
Wild Cat Fact #21: There are 41 known species of felids in the world today, which have all descended from the same ancestor. ** Pam's still here. talking to Roo. starting to feel a little draggy. wish i could take a nap but then i'd be screwed and it's only (getting near) halfway through. changed the music. hoping that will help a bit. Pam's here. bb. Current Mood: busy | | 3:01 pm |
Big Cat Fact #19: In captivity, the Clouded Leopard routinely hangs by its hind legs using its long tail for balance and runs head-first down tree trunks. Little is known about its behaviour in the wild, but it is assumed from this behavior that a favored hunting tactic is to drop on prey from the trees. ** everyone has no doubt heard of I Can Has Cheezburger, aka the cat macro website. i found this today shared on another forum: yes that's Spock holding a real cat. i'm told her name is Isis. and it's too hot. i can has winter now, please?? -_- Current Mood: amusedCurrent Music: Kevin Kendle, "Skylark" | | 2:28 pm |
Wild Cat Fact #18: A jaguarundi's litter consists of one to four kittens. They are raised socially after a 70-day gestation. The kittens become mature at approximately 2 years of age. ** load #2 churning away. load #1 ready to be sorted and put away in its various locations (closet, drawers, goodwill bag, shelter bag). three racks of dishes done, will start fourth momentarily. working on cleaning up the front bathroom. meanwhile, Meru is snoring on top of the fridge again. just who's accomplishing more here?? :P cats! i think i'm gonna take a 5-min cold shower before my first guest of the day shows up. years ago, i did that on blogathon day. i spent three or four hours in a nice cold tub with a few books and got up to post every half. the poor girl's version of a pool, ha! i think the (snail) mail is here. i better go check it. Current Mood: hotCurrent Music: Eurythmics, "Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This" | | 2:00 pm |
Wild Cat Fact #17: The caracal resembles a Eurasian Lynx and for a long time it was considered a close relative of the lynxes. ** trying to get Clio to arrange a time to call me, LOL. and she's horrified that i've never seen Rocky Horror Picture Show (well i just told her i've seen it, i just didn't like it. wondering what kinda reaction that will receive, LOL). i should introduce her to Bri...if Bri still likes Rocky Horror. and ever gets a blog. then again i'm one of those weird people who does not think Tim Burton is some fabulous genius. Nightmare Before Christmas bored me disgustingly. load #2 going into the washer....and it's now 101 outside. bleah. Current Mood: busyCurrent Music: The Corrs, "Erin Shore" [instrumental] | | 1:29 pm |
lunch and chores Wild Cat Fact #16: Tigers are essentially solitary and territorial animals. The size of a tiger's home range mainly depends on prey abundance, and, in the case of male tigers, on access to females. A tigress may have a territory of 20 square kilometres while the territories of males are much larger, covering 60–100 km. The ranges of males tend to overlap those of several females. ** a really short clip of Caesar and Jasmine....this is what happens when a female tiger is ticked off at a male tiger, LOL! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTFiatvvuHMlunch is PB&strawberryJ, with a single serving bag of Fritos and a glass of lemonade. nothing like what Missy's taste-testers get but oh well, LOL. Pam will be here in an hour and half. i plan to have laundry load #2 done by then. also try to make some tiger icons of my own. i need to practice making smaller stuff anyway. off to hit stock.xchng. THANK YOU MIKE AND PAM!!! :D i wonder if i will be able to make my goal after all. only $50 to go! i'm all excited now. XD current TOTAL pledges all told for everyone participating this year: $31,601.35!!! the very number is mind boggling and just think, it all goes to good causes. reading Missy's blog is making me want lunch. if you are a foodie, are interested in cooking or you just want to make yourself hungry, go have a read at Chef Missy's Table. her charity of choice is the National Kidney Foundation, as she has a dear friend named David whose life was saved by a kidney transplant. now brb. gonna go look in the fridge.... Current Mood: ecstaticCurrent Music: Tonic, "If Only You Could See" | | 12:31 pm |
Amur leopards...and a small rant Wild Cat Fact #14: In March 2009 The Minister of Natural Resources of Russian Federation during his meeting with Vladimir Putin reassured Prime Minister that the ministry is planning to restore Amur Leopard population by introducing new "imported" Amur Leopards into the area and creating suitable and safe habitat for them. ** i wish them all the success possible. Amur leopards are one of THE most endangered wild feline species. the current estimate is that less than 50 exist today in the wild. it makes me sick to know that, in all possibility, they will be gone from the wild before Robin's precious little Hannah turns eighteen, or worse--before my niece and nephew (who are eight and six respectively) reach adulthood. one of the main causes for the Amur's depletion in population is poaching. yes, i know there are poor people who think the fur is the only way to keep one warm (after all it worked for millennia before we invented the ways of making clothes from other means). yes, i know some people are shallow enough to think a dead cat is a great trophy to show off to their friends. (gag me.) yes, i know farmers and ranchers have rights to protect their livestock. (don't get me started on this one.) but the bottom line is that leopard fur belongs in only ONE place. .... ON THE DAMN LEOPARD. i'm gonna go continue my laundry before i let myself get annoyed w this subject anymore than needed. [thank you, Wikipedia, for the gorgeous pic of the Amur leopard. click the link to wikipedia for the full entry on the Amur leopard.] Current Mood: angryCurrent Music: Within Temptation, "What Have You Done" [Expanded version] | | 12:00 pm |
Wild Cat Fact #13: Unlike other big cats, the snow leopard cannot roar, despite possessing an incomplete ossification of the hyoid bone.
**
washer is churning away....
and i'm wondering what to do with the "spring basket" decoration i made years ago. i hate to throw it away cuz it actually looks kinda neat. i'd give it to mom but i already made her one. so it's taking up space in the closet that could be put to better use. :-/
:sigh:
the first leg of the blogathon is already over.
wow, is it noon already?
Pam should be here in three hours.
Current Music: Within Temptation, "Final Destination" | | 11:29 am |
Wild Cat Fact #12: Because of its relatively flat face, it was once thought that Pallas's Cat was the ancestor of the Persian cat breed. ** geez, i wish this timer had a louder beep. i missed it beeping and almost forgot to post. -_- Bob might come over tonite instead. he got pulled into doing other work and is now worn out. poor guy. so i should hear from him about 7ish. busy, busy....longer entry later on. Current Mood: crazyCurrent Music: Within Temptation, "Somewhere" | | 11:04 am |
Big Cat Fact #11: The Serval (Leptailurus serval) is a medium-sized African wild cat. Molecular DNA analysis indicates Servals descended from the same ancient Felid ancestor as the Lion, but the Serval maintains its own unique lineage and does not branch from any other cat species, although they appear to share common traits with the Cheetah. However, similar studies has shown the serval to be closely related to the African Golden Cat and the Caracal. ** my first mention of the serval brings me to link you to two more clips from the Cat House--these of Teshi the serval going goldfishin'! part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fr7L2VNIJH8part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSzoP2a2CUopiles sorted. i plan to call up Dixie after i throw the first load in and see if she's around. i know she's off today so maybe she can stop by. if i don't hear from Bob by noon, i will probly check in with dad and see if he's heard from him. Current Mood: busyCurrent Music: Within Temptation, "Angels" | | 10:27 am |
Wild Cat Fact #10: The cheetah hunts by vision rather than by scent.
**
random: cheetahs have always been my favorite of the wild cats. hence why Cheetara is my favorite of the Thundercats.
Bob still hasn't called or shown up. so i'm starting the laundry. i have two mountains that i want to be gone (or at least one gone) by dark. one's in the corner of the hall, the smaller one is in the bedroom.
also need to find my Cat House shirt, as that's what i wanted to wear today once ppl started coming over. i presume it's in one of the piles.
and it's now hit 92F. oy.
